BELIEVE IN YOURSELF:

Carve your own path and believe in yourself! A film professor in college once told me I'd never go anywhere in my career with music videos or YouTube. In fact he was so sure, he even went as far as calling me into an out of class office hours meeting where he said... "I could show your stuff to 5 directors I know right now and they would all say it sucks..." and that I needed to follow his plan or he could fail me from his course. True story, I swear. Needless to say I didn't let his words affect me, if anything it fueled me. I went against the grain and carved my own path. To this day he's contacted me several times asking me to come back to ASU to speak to his Directing class. Yea....the one that once almost "failed" me out because I wouldn't follow his course curriculum and make a film instead of doing my no good music/youtube videos. Moral of the story: Believe in yourself, don't listen to the people saying you won't or can't and follow that path of passion relentlessly. - Jakob Owens

Overnight success does not exist. At the very least, it is statistically so rare that people would have a better chance at “succeeding” by playing the lottery.

People claim that others have achieved overnight success, but what they don’t see before that success is the years upon years of harwork & dedication into a craft or business that lead to that “OVERNIGHT SUCCESS”

For me personally I’ve been grinding away for the last 5 years or so working very hard on building my business and filmmaking career. Every year my revenue increases, my name becomes more recognized, so yea my success starts to turn over at a faster rate than it did when I first began.

Ultimately, it’s just untrue. Yes people will have different rates and timeframes in which they reach ‘success’ but thats the fact of the matter. Everyone is different and everyone has a different path to success, so don’t be scourged when your path and journey might not look like or develop as quickly as someone else’s.

Life is about making choices. When you choose one option, you are also saying no to many others. You can have what you want, but you cannot want it all and have it all.

I began making videos out of my college apartment for little to nothing monetarily. I did it because I loved it. Now I run several thriving filmmaking related business and make a yearly income I would have never dreamed I would make back in college.

Just put your head down work hard and you will see that success start to accumulate over time but definitely not overnight! - Jakob Owens
